Borussia Dortmund are not planning to recall Ansgar Knauff this summer despite his impressive performances while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ansgar Knauff has made an incredible impact since joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January, surpassing all expectations and establishing himself as a regular starter for them. He still has one more season left on his loan deal with the Eagles, and Sport1 claim that Borussia Dortmund are not planning to recall him this summer.
Knauff’s performances at right wing-back for Eintracht Frankfurt were crucial to their turnaround in the second half of the season. The 20 year old helped Oliver Glasner’s side win the UEFA Europa League, scoring vital goals against FC Barcelona and West Ham United en route to the final. And he was also named the UEFA Europa League Young Player of the Season by UEFA’s Technical Observer panel.
Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche believes that Knauff made the right move by joining them on loan during the January transfer window.
“The decision to join us was the right one for Ansgar,” Krösche told Sport1. “He still has a loan contract until 2023 and our coach Oliver Glasner has shown that he is capable of developing players. Ansgar was of course an important part of our success.”
Eintracht Frankfurt’s UEFA Europa League triumph also helped them qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. And playing regularly against the best players in Europe’s premier cup competition will no doubt be good for Knauff’s development.
Borussia Dortmund are closely monitoring Knauff’s progress at Eintracht Frankfurt. And if the Germany U-21s international continues to perform the way he has done in recent months, he will certainly have a role to play for the Black and Yellows when he makes his return to the club in 2023.
