TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida lawmakers are just one day away from taking on the state’s crumbling home insurance industry.

The special session in Tallahassee on Monday will focus on major homeowners’ insurance carriers that have been pulling out of the state.
That, along with a flood of roof-related lawsuits, is pushing up premiums for homeowners in our area.
Lawmakers have been speaking out on this growing problem, heading into the session.

“This is an industry in collapse,” said state Sen. Jeff Brandes. “The people that are paying the price are the homeowners, the renters and the condo owners around the state of Florida.”

Lawmakers said that regardless of the special session’s outcome, it will be a while before residents see any major drop in premiums.
