Liverpool’s 2022-23 Premier League fixtures

The transfer market only recently opened but Liverpool have wasted no time in getting stuck in.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have secured the signing of highly-rated Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a fee that could rise to £85million. That acquisition goes some way to softening the blow of losing legendary forward Sadio Mane, following his decision to join Bayern Munich. As well as Nunez, Liverpool have also brought in Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho.

In terms of outgoings, as well as Mane, the likes of Divock Origi and Sheyi Ojo have been released whilst attention has turned to striking loan deals for some of the club’s younger players. Earlier this week, right-back Conor Bradley joined up with League One side Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan and fellow full-back Adam Lewis agreed a temporary stay with League Two club Newport County.

Here, Mirror Football identifies four other Liverpool youngsters who could benefit from loans in the Championship next term.

Kaide Gordon

Kaide Gordon made a clutch of first team appearances last season

Liverpool attacker Gordon is still only 17 but impressed enough to win a handful of senior appearances for Klopp’s side last term. He arrived from Derby in early 2021, having made just a solitary outing for the Rams but with a lofty billing.

A loan move to a team in the EFL, whether it be for a full campaign or a half-season, could be the perfect next stage of his development. There would doubtless be plenty of Championship clubs interested, too.

Is Kaide Gordon a first-team star in the making? Have your say in the comments!

Tyler Morton

Tyler Morton is highly-rated at Liverpool

Midfielder Morton made nine first-team appearances last term for the Reds, showing plenty of promise during his handful of cameos, which included outings against Porto and AC Milan. A loan move to a second-tier club may be the ideal scenario that would help him get accustomed to the intensity in the Premier League.

Having joined the Reds at the age of just seven, Morton is determined to secure a first-team shirt in the future. He said after his senior debut last season: “It’s a different feeling to any other feeling, especially your boyhood club, as everyone will know.

“Being a fan all my life and now stepping on the pitch, it felt surreal. But that’s where I want to be, so that’s where I’m going to push to be.”

Calvin Ramsay

Calvin Ramsey joined Liverpool from Aberdeen earlier this month

The Reds secured the signing of Scottish defender Ramsay for a fee of around £4million with further add-ons potentially taking the deal up to the £6.5m mark. Aged 18, he caught the eye for Aberdeen last season and that was enough to persuade Liverpool to hand him a five-year deal.

Still raw, Ramsay would be a huge coup for any Championship club but, for now, Klopp is just happy to have the youngster on board and in the building. The Reds boss said said: “Signing so early in the window is fantastic for him as it means he’ll be with us for pre-season.

“That helps so much, particularly for a younger signing coming to us. We’re all really looking forward to working with him and seeing him improve and develop.”

Rhys Williams

Rhys Williams played just seven times on loan at Swansea last season

Defender Williams endured a forgettable 2021-22 season. Having made his first-team breakthrough the season prior, a loan move to Championship side Swansea should have been the springboard for him to push on.

But the centre-half made just seven outings for the Swans and the deal was terminated midway through the campaign. Despite the move not working out, Williams posted an emotional message after departing.

He wrote: “Gutted it didn’t go to plan but it’s been a pleasure to be a Swan for the time I was given. Wish the club all the best in the future. Once a Jack always a Jack.”

Now 21, Williams will be keen for a much better experience next term and will surely be on the watchlist of many Championship clubs.
