The share of people in the US who lacked health insurance continued to drop in the first quarter to 8%, or 26.4 million people, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday.
That percentage of uninsured people was down from 9.5%, or 30.8 million, in the first quarter of 2021, the report showed.
Many people have obtained health coverage through the Affordable Care Act exchanges as a result of increased subsidies under the American Rescue Plan Act enacted in 2021, as well as through Medicaid coverage that has been continued without interruption during the Covid-19 public health emergency.
