Jaipur: Only 8 persons belonging to the minority community had applied for loans under the Prime Minister Street Vendors’ Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi) scheme in Rajasthan and just two received loans as a part of first and second loan disbursals, an RTI reply obtained from the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) has revealed.
According to the reply, eight applications were received as a part of the first loan (2020-21) and loans were disbursed to two persons during the first disbursal.
The RTI application in this regard was filed by Venkatesh Nayak of Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI).
The Union government had launched the Prime Minister Street Vendors’ Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi) scheme on June 1, 2020, for the benefit of millions of street vendors whose livelihoods were drastically impacted by the nationwide pandemic lockdown imposed towards the end of March 2020.
PMSVANidhi aims to provide collateral-free loans at subsidised rates of interest to eligible street vendors in three tranches – Rs 10,000 in the first year and Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000 in the second and third year, respectively.
Meanwhile, 2,214 applications were received in the state from persons with disabilities (PwDs) under the PMSVANidhi scheme and loans were distributed to 1,045 PwDs as a part of first and second loan disbursals, the RTI reply stated.
According to data supplied by MoHUA’s CPIO, a total of 48.70 lakh (4.87 million) applications had been received for the 1st and 2nd loans across the country since the inception of the PMSVANidhi scheme. Only 607 of these were submitted by street vendors belonging to the minority communities. This is a meagre 0.012% of the total number of applications. While 529 1st loan applications were submitted by street vendors belonging to minority communities, only 77 were submitted for the 2nd loan.
