BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Office team members and our great partners from various local law enforcement agencies did an incredible job of taking a bank robber off our streets and putting him behind bars which is exactly where he belongs.
Around 11:38 a.m. this morning our Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from TD Bank, located at 4551 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, Florida.
Employees at the Bank advised a bank robbery had just occurred where the suspect pointed a black handgun directly at them and demanded money. The suspect left the bank with a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
The employees at the bank described the robber as being a black male weighing approximately 220-250 pounds, wearing a white t-shirt, red belt, pants, and Nike shoes.
As a result of the call, units from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Melbourne Police, Cocoa Police, Rockledge Police, and the Florida Highway Patrol began a search of surrounding roadways in an effort to locate a potential suspect!
Based upon the information provided by the bank employees, law enforcement located a male matching that description driving a blue 2022 Hyundai Genesis.
After failing to stop and attempting to elude law enforcement by running red lights and making u-turns, the vehicle was eventually stopped by various units at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and State Road 520.
As officers conducted a felony stop, the male driver and sole occupant got out of the vehicle and when taken into custody was identified as Bernard Rogers Jr.
A short time later, Agents with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office conducted a “show-up” with the bank teller that had been immediately confronted by the robber.
The employee positively identified Rogers as the robbery suspect and during a post-Miranda interview, Rogers stated that he made bad decisions.
Rogers was subsequently transported to the Brevard County Jail where he was held on a “No Bond” status on charges of Armed Robbery and Fleeing and Attempting to Elude.
Investigative efforts later revealed that Rogers was also wanted for armed robbery in Orange County as well.
This case is a perfect example of what happens when law enforcement and citizens partner together to take criminals off our streets.
Great job by the TD Bank team in following their protocols and working with us to bring the perpetrator to justice and also by all of the various agencies that worked together to get a violent subject in custody!
