Mumbai: Two more cases of online fraud involving loan app recovery agents were registered with Kurar police on June 30 and July 1. In both cases, victims got abusive calls, and those on their contact list were told that the victims’ family was available for sex for Rs500-1,500. The cases were registered against unknown persons from the Credit Wallet and Dutta Rupee apps.
On July 1, a 30-year-old Malad resident, from a Lower Parel printing press, complained to police that he availed of a loan from Credit Wallet on June 22, as he wanted to pay equated monthly instalments (EMIs) for a loan he had taken to buy a mobile. He said, “I applied for Rs6,000 after I granted access to my mobile contact list, Pan card, Aadhaar card, and my photo. But Rs4,000 was credited to my account after they deducted processing fees from the loan sum. Despite repaying the sum on June 30, I was threatened on July 1 to malign my name by sending my morphed photos to my contact list.”
